On Saturday, August 19th, we had 9 competitors take the mats at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena. Starting bright and early at 8am, Josh Tan Torres and Allan Sanchez, quickly got to work earning some bronze medals. They both went 2-1, each getting a submission victory. Jeff Bowler was also on one of the first few athletes to take the mat, going 1-2, showcasing some of his wrestling. Our 2 gold medals on the day came from, Elijah Eirich and Chris Udink, both winning 3 matches. Elijah finished his matches with a triangle, bow and arrow, and then a refs decision in the finals. Chris on the other hand, won via points, triangle, then a North-South choke in the finals. Shortly after, Rafi Caroline went 1-1, barely losing by a “buzzer-beating” takedown in the finals. Ramon Arrizon also had 2 tough matches, scrapping to the very end of each one. The last Gi competitor on the day, Jarrod Walker, may have had the longest day of them all. He had a total of 4 matches, winning 3 of them, all by submission. To end the day, Marissa Ramirez, competed in the Advanced NoGi division. She ended the day getting 2nd place, with a record of 1-1, securing her victory via rear naked choke.

In the gi, our Academy took 3rd place for the ‘Elite 8.’  And all the Carlson Gracie Teams came together to get 2nd place as an Organization.
